Nancy A. Hakeem Memorial Scholarship
Amount: $1,000 to Full Tuition
Eligibility: 8th grade students
The Nancy A. Hakeem Memorial Scholarship was established in 2023 to honor the memory of Nancy Hakeem, who was born to eternal life on November 26, 2019. A woman of great faith, Nancy served in many areas of Faith Formation for over 40 years, ministering to hundreds of youths. The Diocese of Providence recognized her as the Woman of the Year. Her smile and demeanor moved all who knew this extraordinary woman. At the request of her loving husband, Louis Hakeem, this scholarship has been created to honor his wife by continuing her legacy to help youth develop a beautiful relationship with Christ.
To be eligible for the Nancy A Hakeem memorial scholarship, a student must:
Be accepted in Chesterton Academy
Show commitment to learning and growing in the faith
Demonstrate desire to be an active member and leader of the Chesterton community
Exhibit academic growth
Complete and submit an essay describing how you, as a Chesterton Academy of Our Lady of Hope student, hope to use God’s gifts and the knowledge you obtain to become a joyful leader serving the common good. This can be through actions, habits, or personal commitment.
Submit a letter of reference
If you feel your child may be eligible to receive this award please submit the below nomination form, required essay, and letter of recommendation no later than February 1st of the students 8th grade year.
Essay Requirements
Essay must be typed, double spaced using 12 point Times New Roman font and should be no more than two pages long. After submitting the nomination form the essay should sent via email to executive director, Michael Casey, via email at mcasey@chestertonri.org with “Nancy A. Hakeem Memorial Scholarship Application” in the Subject line of your email.
