A Note from the Headmaster |
We are pleased to introduce to you two new teachers who will join CAOLH this coming school year! Ms. Rebecca Scheurer, who will teach in a variety of subjects, and Ms. Rachel Garrepy, who will teach music, both stand out as witnesses to faith in Christ who are moved by a deep love for beauty and truth. They will be excellent role models and teachers for the students of Our Lady of Hope. In interviews, they impressed the search committee not only with their knowledge and wonder, but also their evident ability and eagerness to lead our students into a full life rooted in love for what is truly good and beautiful. We are grateful to welcome them into the CAOLH community, and I know they look forward to meeting you soon.

Miss Rebecca Scheurer is from Templeton, Massachusetts, a small farm town in the northern part of the state. She graduated high school from Trivium School in Lancaster, MA. Between high school and college, Miss Scheurer took a year to work, during which time she spent a few weeks studying JPII's Theology of the Body in Poland. Among the many graces on that trip, Miss Scheurer decided to attend Thomas Aquinas College in Northfield, MA, from which she recently graduated with a Bachelor of Arts. During college while on a trip as a Totus Tuus Missionary in Oklahoma, she discovered that she enjoyed instilling wonder about the good, true, and beautiful in young people, and so when she heard about the mission of the Chesterton Academies, she decided to help establish Chesterton Academy of Our Lady of Hope in Rhode Island. In her free time, Miss Scheurer loves anything to do with the outdoors, especially hiking, making music with her nine younger siblings, and, of course, reading the great works of western civilization, especially St. Thomas Aquinas.

Born and raised in Rhode Island, Rachel was blessed to be born into a large Catholic family, where she was raised to love the faith and live it in her daily life. Her family is very musically gifted, and Rachel received training from a very young age in voice, recorder, piano, and organ. She began her musical career singing with her siblings at home and in church choirs. At the age of 11 she joined Ecclesia Consort of New England. Rachel's love for music grew through her teenage years, and it was her obvious choice to continue her musical studies in College. She graduated from Rhode Island College in 2021 with a degree in Music Performance, graduating summa cum laude. Rachel is currently the music director at Church of St Mary on Broadway in Providence RI, where she runs a thriving music program. She also performs regularly with Ensemble Altera, a professional vocal Ensemble based in Providence. In her spare time, Rachel enjoys going for bike rides or long walks, and enjoying the restaurants and scenery of New England with her family and friends.

Wisdom from G.K. Chesterton |
“Humility is the thing which is forever renewing the earth and the stars…To the humble man, and to the humble man alone, the sun is really a sun; to the humble man, and to the humble man alone, the sea is really a sea.” |
