A Note from the Headmaster |
Dear friends, The Catholic philosopher Robert Spaemann writes that "education is a side effect of human interaction with children, of our living with them. We can only allow children to participate in what fulfills us ourselves, what is truly real to us. This is why the self-formation of the educator is so important." Every day, I am grateful for the wonderful faculty and staff we are blessed to have at Chesterton Academy of Our Lady of Hope, men and woman of deep faith and strong moral character, with many gifts, talents, and interests to share with our students. It was wonderful to have almost half of our students present for Ensemble Altera's concert (though they are not all pictured above!). Please see below for important and exciting updates about some of the things happening in the Chesterton community! Come pray with us during daily Mass at 11:15, hear our students sing Lessons and Carols, and visit our open house. And when you visit, please don't hesitate to say hello! Gratefully yours in Christ, Robert Duffy, Ph.D. |
December Updates Lessons and Carols, Dec. 20 @ 6:30pm Harp Prelude from Katherine O'Neill of The Grateful Harp @ 6:00 Dessert Reception to Follow |
We hope you will join us to hear the Chesterton Student Choir sing The Festival of Lessons and Carols on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at 6:30pm in the St. Francis Chapel at 610 Jefferson Boulevard, Warwick RI. The event will be preceded by a harp prelude by Katherine O'Neill of The Grateful Harp (see her website here) at 6:00, and followed by a dessert reception to which all are invited. This beautiful and festive tradition began in the 19th century. Through scripture readings (or “lessons”), hymns, carols, and prayers, the Festival tells the story of the Fall, the Messianic promise, the Incarnation, and the Great Commission. Registration is not required but will help us with anticipating numbers for the service. |

Wisdom from G.K. Chesterton |
“The goodness of the fairy tale was not affected by the fact that there might be more dragons than princesses; it was good to be in a fairy tale. The test of all happiness is gratitude; and I felt grateful, though I hardly knew to whom. Children are grateful when Santa Claus puts in their stockings gifts of toys or sweets. Could I not be grateful to Santa Claus when he put in my stockings the gift of two miraculous legs? We thank people for birthday presents of cigars and slippers. Can I thank no one for the birthday present of birth?" |
