A Note from the Headmaster |
Dear friends, Chesterton has grown! Praise God, our student body has nearly doubled since the start of last year. Full-time faculty have more than doubled. Students, teachers and guests have all noted that you can feel it when students sing and pray together, hear it when they chant their house names, and see it when the students greet and say goodbye out front each morning and afternoon. (Last year, students said it feels like a reunion every morning. That has not changed!)
Our building is also growing. To name just a few things, volunteers are diligently sorting donations for Chesterton’s St. John Vianney Library. Students are enjoying their new lockers, and we are working hard on the doors and fixtures to open the second floor of our school building for classes. A donor has given new flooring for the entire school, which will be installed later this year. Our programming is expanding, too. We have joined the Rhode Island Interscholastic League for sports and will offer two Chesterton sports teams for each season.
Commenting on the path to joy, C. S. Lewis writes that, “If you want to get warm you must stand near the fire: if you want to be wet you must get into the water. If you want joy, power, peace, eternal life, you must get close to, or even into, the thing that has them.” As a fire grows, its warmth and light increase. Chesterton's growth helps us embody the kind of community that makes truth, goodness, and beauty visible (cf. Mt. 18:20), and that fulfills our mission: to form men and women who know and love the truth and magnify Jesus Christ, Truth Himself, with their lives.
Anyone who is a part of Chesterton vividly experiences God's faithfulness and generosity - "If God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you?" (Mt. 6:30). Thank you for your prayers, for spreading the word, and for visiting us, all of which make Chesterton Academy of Our Lady of Hope's beautiful mission a reality. We hope to see you at daily Mass, for a campus tour, or at any of our upcoming events! Gratefully yours in Christ, Robert Duffy, PhD Headmaster |
